What is deferred interest?

A deferred-interest offer may waive interest if you repay the promotional purchase in full within its stated period. If you miss that condition, interest can be charged back to the purchase date. Read the offer carefully: deferred interest and a standard 0% APR promotion are different arrangements.

Build a plan around the promotion

Add the promotional balance and end date to DebtLiftoff. Review your available monthly funding, compare your payoff options, and keep the deadline visible alongside your other debts. Update your entries when payments post or your lender’s statement changes.

Check how payments are applied

A card may carry multiple balances. Verify with the issuer which balance receives your payment and what remains on the promotional purchase. Minimum payments alone may not clear it in time. DebtLiftoff helps organize your plan; you make payments directly with your lender.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE

Put the method in context.

Suppose a promotional purchase has $1,200 remaining and six payment opportunities before its deadline. Dividing $1,200 by six gives a $200-per-payment planning target. This illustration assumes each payment reduces that promotional balance and no new charges are added. Confirm allocation and processing time with the issuer.

Questions before you start.

Is deferred interest the same as 0% APR?

No. A deferred-interest offer can charge interest from the purchase date if its payoff condition is not met. Check the exact agreement for your purchase.

Does tracking guarantee I avoid interest?

No. Your agreement, payment allocation, posting dates, and actual balance determine the outcome. Keep your plan current and confirm payoff with your lender.
